Kennedy Expressway
Project Description
Project Scope Phase III, Construction inspection services are required for construction inspection for the improvement of I-90 (Kennedy Expressway): I-190 to IL 43 (Harlem Ave) & IL 72 / Bryn Mawr Ave: West of IL 171 (Cumberland Ave) to IL 43 (Harlem Ave) – Add Auxiliary Lanes. Work included, installation of an auxiliary lane and collector-distributor road, resurfacing, drainage improvements, the installation of lighting, ITS, signing, repairs to existing retaining walls and the construction of 7 new retaining walls along WB I-90 from Cumberland Avenue to Harlem Avenue.
4HD Inc provided engineering services for construction inspection with construction of seven new retaining walls along the expressway to create space to add a new lane along 2.3 miles of roadway within a tight urban corridor. The reconstruction of ramps for three expressway interchanges alters their alignments to create smooth connections to the interstate, maintaining safe traffic flow at entrances and exits. Besides inspecting the reconstruction and widening of the roadway as well as lighting, signing, and sign s structure upgrades, our firm inspected the installation of a new storm sewer system along I-90 to ensure it will effectively manage runoff and prevent roadway flooding.
The successful reconstruction of westbound I-90 sets the stage for a major effort to double the capacity of Interstate 190, which connects to I-90, in order to significantly improve access to O’Hare over the coming years.
Various Maintenance Construction Engineering Projects
Project Description
4HD provided Phase III for Maintenance Construction Engineering Services for the IDOT Bureau of Maintenance as a sub to Primera Engineers PTB 188. The goal of the project is to provide the department with assistance on various expressway and arterial roadside maintenance projects, repair construction projects and safety study projects during the construction time. Typical work assignments include but are not limited to general roadway and roadside maintenance, repair construction inspection, documentation, and safety analysis. Various work activities consist of but are not limited to monitoring and adjusting work zone traffic control and site protection for quality control and monitoring and adjusting contractor work crew field activities for quality control. Various maintenance projects consist of but are not limited to roadway sweeping, guardrail repair, pedestrian barrier/fence repair, cable road guard repair, surveying for existing damage, marking up existing damage, preparation of work orders, preparing and submitting any required documentation, prescribing steps to provide acceptable levels of safety, assuring disciplined safety guidelines, and providing general assistance as a member of a field crew.
I-90 at I-290/Congress Parkway (Jane Byrne Interchange) I-90/94
Project Description
4HD Inc provided Phase III engineering construction inspection services for the improvement of -I-90 at I-290/Congress Parkway (Jane Byrne Interchange) – I-90/94 (SB): Roosevelt Road to Lake/Madison Street. Work includes, but is not limited to, the total reconstruction of the Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94) Southbound mainline to 4 through lanes between Roosevelt Road and Lake and Madison Streets in the City of Chicago using Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCC). For the mainline lanes and Portland Cement Concrete Jointed Pavement (PCC) for the ramps and tapers, construction of one new concrete retaining wall, resurfacing the transition area at the north end of the expressway reconstruction limit in the SB direction, construction of a two-lane Collector Distributor (C-D) roadway with shoulder within the limits of the project along the west side, overhead signing, roadway lighting, ITS, drainage & pavement markings. The work also includes special waste cleanup within the Accident Investigation Site (AIS) and other areas within the project limits and construction of an underground detention storage facility underneath the AIS near the Cermak Pumping Station, and all incidental and collateral work necessary to complete the improvement. In this project, the structure included S.N. 016-1823 – (New retaining wall along the southbound direction of I-90/94 Expressway along the west side just north of Monroe Street).

Phase III Construction Inspection Services
Project Description
Phase III Construction Inspection services are required for the preparation of contract plans and specifications, construction inspection. The Consultant is expected to be knowledgeable in earthwork operations. Will perform on-site inspection, review layout of the contract including design changes, prepare records, maintain documentation, and submit pay estimates and change orders and any other duties requiring to complete this project on a timely basis and in accordance with IDOT specifications. Our duty for this project includes submitting final measurements, calculations, and final contract documents.
4HD Inc. Role
4HD, Inc. will provide phase III Construction Inspection services to the CM and assist department manager/technicians on various construction projects throughout District One project. 4HD, Inc.'s staff duties include inspection and documentation of pay quantities and field supervision of all daily construction activities. The scope of work included verifying installed contract quantities, daily inspection reports and safety plan compliance. Staff will generate daily field inspection reports and documentation of production quantities for progress payments.
